BOGDANA HERMAN sings without musical accompaniment mainly those traditional
Slovene songs which exist in published or unpublished note transcriptions
and have been forgotten by Slovenes. She started developing the art of personal
vocal rendering, far beyond the limits of traditional singing, on the initiative
of dr. Zmaga Kumer some twenty years ago, what was a logical continuation
of her Slavic language studies, of her protest song singing in the sixties
and of her work in the outstanding group Salamander, formed also by Lado Jakša.
Tomaž Pengov, Jerko Novak, Milan Dekleva and other subtle connoiseurs of Slovene
language, folk lore and of unlimited possibilities of personal interpretation
of background music. Bogdana Herman can sing about 100 songs from all the
Slovene regions and also the ones of the Slovenes living in Austria, Italy
and Hungary. She especially enjoys rendering love and narrative songs, in
which she seeks the subdued parallels of European lore and the history of
the Earth.
