Katice sing the traditional songs of all the Slovene regions in a highly
original manner; they travel from a melancholic song of the Panonic
plain to extraordinary harmonies of the Rezija region, take a stroll through
diverse
seasons and ages of life, from joy at birth past carefree childhood,
adolescent puns and marriage, all the way towards death. Their rich vocal
repertoire
is seasoned by the sounds of a whistle and an earthenware pot-bass.
They get accompanied also by a traditional musician and they also dance to
their
songs.
Their first independent performance was at the international event Traditional
singers and musicians of the Alpine countries in Innsbruck, 1992. They often
perform abroad (widely echoing performances in Switzerland, Germany, Austria
and Poland, Ireland, Great Britain, Italy, Croatia) and in Slovenia. In 1997
they performed at three important Slovene festivals: at Druga godba and Trnfest,
Ljubljana, and at Okarina, Bled; in 1998 at 20. EBU Folk Contemporary Festival
in Portorož. Their first CD Katice was nominated for the Slovene award Zlati
petelin twice.
